50’s Prime Time Café

March 4, 2024

Have you ever wished you could turn back the clock to the simpler times of the 1950s and sit down to a home-cooked meal with your family?  I am thrilled to report that there is an opportunity to make this wish come true every day for lunch or dinner at 50’s Prime Time Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Your journey back in time begins the moment you step foot inside.  As the doors to the restaurant close on the here and now, you’ll find yourself instantly transported to the quintessential home of the 1950s.  The first room you encounter is a living room typical of this era, complete with floral wallpaper, wood-paneled walls, furnishings in bold oranges and blues, and, of course, a black and white television set.  Continuing on, you’ll be seated at a table in one of the many dining areas expertly designed to recreate the look and feel of a 1950s-style kitchen.

Accompanying the retro 50s theming of the restaurant is a storyline that begins to take shape once you’re settled at your kitchen table.  As it turns out, 50’s Prime Time Café is the site of a big family reunion and you’ve unwittingly become part of that extended family for the duration of your meal.  Mom, Dad, aunts, uncles, cousins (and even Grandpa!) have all pitched in to cook up something special for your visit.  You’ll have your pick of comfort food classics like Aunt Liz’s Golden Fried Chicken, Grandpa Jean’s Chicken Pot Pie, Mom’s Old-Fashioned Pot Roast, and Cousin Megan’s Meatloaf.

Your newly adopted family will wait on you while you relax and enjoy clips of popular 1950s sitcoms like The Dick Van Dyke Show and the original Mickey Mouse Club.  And when your food arrives, be prepared for some silly antics from your newfound relatives.  Be sure to eat all of your veggies and keep your elbows off the table, or you may end up on the receiving end of a lecture about minding your manners.  But don’t worry – it’s all in good fun!  Cast Members at ‘50s Prime Time do an excellent job of gauging guests’ moods and adjusting their high jinks to ensure a great experience for everyone.

This incredibly fun restaurant is also home to one of my all-time favorite Disney indulgences – the Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake. While you may be wondering how this classic kid-approved sandwich could possibly be enjoyable in a liquified form, trust me when I tell you it totally works and it is every bit as delicious. This delightful 50’s Prime Time specialty features rich vanilla ice cream blended with creamy peanut butter and strawberry jelly and makes the perfect accompaniment to any of the hearty dishes on the menu. It is SO, so good!! Best of all, with the help of just four simple ingredients you can easily whip up this decadent dessert for yourself at home and experience a taste of 50’s Prime Time Cafe magic anytime you want. Enjoy!
